RMYC bring RS Feva trophy to Malta

Vanja Ramm-Ericson and Maia Delin representing the Royal Malta Yacht Club at the RS Feva European Championships over the weekend brought the Girls and Junior titles home after racing to victory over a period of three days.

The RS Feva is an international class and is fast becoming the world’s leading double handed dinghy for youngsters.

The Championships held in Le Havre saw thirty five teams take part and nine nations represented in what was a high level competition which included the top five teams who had just returned from competing in the United Kingdom National Championships.

Although racing was supposed to be spread over four days, wind conditions on the last day were considerably lower than the 10 – 15 knots experienced in the first three days of competition, therefore no racing took place.  At the end of the competition, the Ramm-Ericson/ Delin duo garnered 73 points, whilst the second placed team garnered 117.

Ramm-Ericson and Delin started sailing just three years ago at the Royal Malta Yacht Club Sailing School and this was their second international competition. Delin at age 11 was the youngest competitor in the fleet.

“This result makes the Royal Malta Yacht Club extremely proud and satisfied with the work being done to develop young and promising sailors by our coaches.  Although the Sailing School has only been established a few years, our crews are already reaping the results of our hard working and experienced coaches “ explained Godwin Zammit, Commodore Royal Malta Yacht Club. “We also take the opportunity to thank SailCoach for providing our coach Ruya Cakmakli with a rib throughout the event”.

Ramm-Ericson and Delin were accompanied by the Royal Malta Yacht Club Sailing School Head Coach Ruya Cakmakli throughout the whole event.  The next international commitments for the Club will be the RS Feva World Championships to be held in Italy between the 20th and 26th July.  The Club will be fielding three teams made up of the Ramm-Ericson/ Delin duo who will also be joined by two other teams made up of Molly and Maxi Butler and Rosie Durrant and Finn Hilhorst.
