What to bring and wear.
During the Summer months, you will need to wear shorts and a t-shirt, preferably a UV t-shirt/top, a cap or hat, plenty of high factor sun cream and water shoes/booties. If you don’t have water shoes, you can wear Flip Flops on land, but on the boats, you will need to have bare feet.
For Lessons during the winter and colder months, you may wish to wear warmer clothing. Leggings/jogging pants. Regular sailors tend to opt to buy a wetsuit.
Should you have long hair, for safety it is also better to tie it back. We recommend no jewellery is worn.
Safety
Safety is our highest priority. Sailing School staff will err on the side of safety when making weather-related activity decisions. First aid kits are located in every motorboat and in the Sailing School office. If your child has medical conditions, please be sure to alert and discuss protocols with the Chief Instructor. In addition, lifejackets are mandatory and shall be worn at all times while near the water, on the docks, or on the water.

Buying Sailing equipment and clothing
During the summer months, most sailors wear shorts and UV (rash) tops. Once the weather turns cooler, you may wish to wear something warmer and specific to sailing. Sailing clothing can be bought locally from Gauci Borda and RLR, both situated on the Gzira seafront. Sailing School members can get a 10 percent discount by showing their membership card. Items, such as sailing gloves and life jackets can also be bought. Although we do provide lifejackets.
Sailing clothing and equipment can also be bought online.
Private lessons
€30 per sailor per hour, minimum 2 hours.
Should a sailor wish to have a one-to-one lesson, these can be arranged at during the week. Subject to the instructor and dinghy availability. Please contact us to enquire.
What happens during the lessons – Children
When a child begins to sail with us, the first lessons will be on a dingy – RS Vision. On each dingy there will be an instructor and no more than 5 children. Once each child gains enough sailing skills and knowledge, they can then move on to a single-handed dinghy, LASER BUG.
Each lesson will begin with rigging the dinghies, a briefing (explanation of what will happen in the lesson), time out on the water and the lesson will end with de-rigging and washing the dinghies.
Children who wish to log their sailing time and lessons can buy a Logbook from the office at a fee of €5. These will be completed by our instructors, after each lesson.
Sailing Pathways
Children aged 5 to 12 – RS Vision > Laser Bug > Optimist
Children who begin Aged 12 to 16 – RS Vision > RS Feva (Double handed)
Sailors who show dedication and sailing promise, maybe asked to join our Laser team after the Optimist or RS Feva group.
