SAVE THE DATE – October 2010

The month of October brings about a hive of activity at the RMYC which culminates with the Rolex Middle Sea Race.

On Wednesday, 29th September the Club will be organising the briefing for the Raymarine Double Handed Round Malta Race. Briefing and registration will start at 1900hrs.
The race will start on Saturday, 2nd October with the Prize Giving Ceremony being held on Sunday, 3rd at 2000hrs.

On Friday 15th October, we will be organising the RMYC Annual Party in support of the Malta 49er Olympic Campaign. Tickets will shortly be made available at the RMYC secretariat. Cost is 25 euro and includes a welcome drink and a buffet. A live band will be in attendance followed by DJ entertainment. All proceeds will be donated in support of the Malta 49er Campaign. We strongly urge all RMYC members and their friends to reserve their tickets by sending an email to the Club on info@rmyc.org

On Saturday, 16th October, the Club will be hosting an "Art Exhibition by Alexia Coppini" entitled "Terraferma". Alexia is a young and upcoming artist and has produced some great work recently. She is an emerging artist who creates fantastic seascapes and ethereal skies.  The common thread in Alexia's paintings is representations of big skies and vast seas. They represent the natural environment in the most tranquil manner.  All members are invited to attend. This starts at 2000 on Saturday evening.

On Monday, 18th October we host our major International regatta, the Rolex Middle Sea Race. We are again expecting another great race with some amazing boats expecting to participate. Registration starts on Monday 18th and ends on Friday 22nd. We are organising a coastal race on Wednesday, 20th October for our guests as a prelude before the big race whilst the crew party will be held at the club on Thursday, 21st October with entertainment from Gianni & Co. Briefing will be held on Friday afternoon whilst the start will again be from the majestic Grand Harbour the following day.

The start will be on Saturday, 23rd October with the start line situated at the Upper Barrakka as it was last year. However, we have moved the official RMYC private reception to the Lower Barrakka. We feel this will give our members a better viewing point of the start area whilst you can also watch the fleet sail out of the Grand Harbour.

The Prize Giving (30th October) will again be held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre with a bit of a change. We will be using the "Republic Hall" for the Official Prize Giving Ceremony and to show the Rolex Film. After the film, guests will move to the "La Valette Hall" for the reception. The RMSR after party will be held at the RMYC Clubhouse.

Guests will be allowed entrance to any event upon presentation of the official invite only.!

A week after the RMSR, the Yacht Club will be hosting the Malta Dinghy National Championships at our new sailing centre. We are expecting a large number of people to participate and we would like to encourage as many RMYC members to join in the fun. We are sure that many of you still posses or can get hold of, some type of dinghy and we would love to have you participate in this event. This will be a great event as we finally get to showcase our sailing centre facilities at the RMYC. So make that little extra effort and organise a dinghy and come racing. The Nationals start on Saturday 6th November.

The Clubhouse is now complete and just a few minor adjustments are being made together with a light "touch up" before the Rolex Middle Sea Race.

As you can all imagine, organising all these events needs a team of volunteers and helpers. Should you wish to help out in any event, please send us an email on info@rmyc.org or simply pop over to the Club and let us know where and when you are free to help out. Every little helps.

Thank you
