Ton Ton Laferla wins on second day

The Spring Gozo Regatta fleet were taken on a race round the island of Gozo by the Race Committee today.

A South Westerly wind blowing around 14 to 18 knots gave all the boats a good start.   The course was round Gozo in the direction of Xlendi with a finish line just outside Mgarr.

First to cross the finish line was Jonathan Gambin’s Ton Ton Laferla.

The provisional overall leader board sees Jonathan Gambin’s Ton Ton Laferla and Andrew Agius Delicata and Matthew Gabriele’s Vivace with equal points, having won a race each so far. Mark Camilleri’s Pep stands in third place.  In the IRC Cruisers’ Class Godwin Zammit’s Inspiration stands in first place sharing equal points with Kevin Pisani Zammit’s Dimm.  Jacques Savona’s Battleaxe leads the way in the Club Cruisers’ division.

A weekend that is proving to be very competitive with the ORC European championships just round the corner with 3 of the top 4 teams getting ready for the championships.

The weekend is turning out to be the perfect weekend with champagne sailing conditions that give all teams the opportunity to perform at their best. The fleet is growing from one event to another seeing new faces and boats around and also veteran sailors returning to give the novices a helping hand and local knowledge.

The Club has stepped up the social activities for these long weekend events and keeps crews busy on the water and on land too.  This evening the fleet will enjoy a dinner together but will keep in mind that a longer race to Filfla awaits them tomorrow!

Race Management today was handled by Martin Azzopardi and Adrian Gauci Borda.
